Support - To Individuals
About 50 agencies in the PDD Edmonton Region are approved to provide a wide range of supports. As well, many individuals and families choose to hire their supports privately.

Some types of supports that are frequently requested and funded are:

  • Community living supports
  • Employment and other weekday supports
  • Specialized supports

Community Living Supports

These supports are available to assist you to live where you would like with the staffing supports necessary for you to lead the life you choose:

  • Sometimes people have roommates and staffing that is available to provide assistance as required.
  • Some individuals live with another family that shares their home and provides support.
  • Sometimes people live independently but receive some help with banking, shopping, meal preparation, etc.
  • Some individuals continue to live with their own families. Sometimes respite is necessary. An individual may require support because family members work or the family is unavailable. Respite can be overnight at another home or with staff that comes to the family home.

Occupational Supports

These supports are available to assist you as a contributing citizen in Alberta:

  • Most individuals have the potential for employment. Some people want to learn how to write resumes and basic workplace expectations. Others want someone to assist them for a while with actually learning a job.
  • Other individuals want to contribute in other meaningful ways such as volunteering.
  • Some individuals prefer a "semi-retired" life, with the focus on hobbies and social activities.

Specialized Supports
