Outcomes Project: Quality of Life Surveys

The purpose of the Outcomes Project is to pilot a performance measurement framework that includes the perspective of adults with intellectual disabilities who receive PDD-funded services. PDD has taken steps to learn how measuring quality of life can lead to improvements in how services are delivered to adults with intellectual disabilities. PDD has been working with an internationally renowned expert, Dr. Robert Schalock, on this issue.

Quality of Life Surveys

PDD tested the survey instrument and interview process in spring 2008, then refined the survey tool in preparation for piloting the survey process.  From the fall of 2008 to the spring of 2009, the first phase of the pilot took place. Interviews were then conducted with a random sample of 300 individuals from seven participating service providers.

The confidential data from the surveys was analyzed by a research company at the completion of this phase, and based on the findings minor refinements were made to the instrument and the interview process. During the summer of 2009, the pilot is in its final survey phase, with two new service providers participating with a goal of surveying another 100 individuals.
