Our Mission
In obedience to the will of God Rehoboth shall convey God's love to persons with disabilities and their families by "making room" for them through personal support, advocacy, and public education and by providing them with opportunities for personal growth and meaningful participation in society.

Rehoboth Christian Ministries was founded in 1976 by a group of Christian families who desired to create residential, vocational, and recreational support programs for individuals who live with developmental disabilities.

The mandate they adopted was to provide support programs and services to individuals and their families from a Christian perspective. Beginning with a summer camp program in 1976, Rehoboth Christian Ministries has "made room" for individuals with disabilities in the communities of Stony Plain, Edmonton, Three Hills, Calgary, Airdrie, Lethbridge, Coaldale and Grande Prairie.

Rehoboth Christian Ministries offers a full range of support programs to assist each individual in achieving a level of independence within his or her ability.

WJS Alberta has been providing Behaviour Outreach Services in Northwestern Alberta since 1988. There are three principal components to the service.

Direct Service

Behaviour Consultants receive referrals from PDD Client Service Coordinators or Executive Directors of PDD funded agencies. Through individual consultation, a comprehensive assessment is done in collaboration with the individual, his/her family and/or caregivers, and appropriate professionals (medical, psychological, etc.). Based on the assessment, a behaviour plan is designed by the consultant and reviewed by a clinical psychologist. It is then reviewed with the client or guardian for informed consent. Continued consultation with the caregivers empowers them to implement the plan. The consultant facilitates liaison among professionals and program environments to make maximum use of the strengths, abilities and resources of the individual and the community in which he/she lives.

Agency Consultation

Since the establishment of Behaviour Review Committees in 1997, an increasing proportion of the role of the Behaviour Consultant has been devoted to agency consultation. Consultants now sit on 16 BRCs throughout the region - providing information and support to agency personnel to ensure the most positive behaviour supports and least restrictive programs for individuals are utilized.

Training

BOS provides in-service training and behavioural training workshops for agency staff throughout the region. Workshops include Proactive Behavioural Strategies, Advanced Behavioural Strategies, Crisis Assessment and Response, and Program Design. In addition, BOS will coordinate training in personal safety and physical intervention by facilitators from out of the region.

Making public service mean more by providing people with innovative support and opportunities for personal growth through training, education and community involvement.
