Persons with Developmental Disabilities
Spring Celebration and Awards Night

The 10th Annual Northwest Persons with Developmental Disabilities Spring Celebration and Awards Night will be held Friday, May 9 at the Grande Prairie Inn. The PDD Northwest Community Board hosts the annual Persons with Developmental Disabilities Northwest Spring Celebration and Awards Night to recognize the people, organizations and businesses who are making a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities celebrate.

If you know of an individual or organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and deserves to be recognized, please nominate them for an award. Awards are given in three categories:


Person of the Year Award

Employer of the Year Award

Community Inclusion Award

Up to three awards will be presented to adults with developmental disabilities
who:

  • Have achieved success in overcoming barriers in their lives or have contributed to the self-advocacy movement in Northwest Alberta
  • Have been successfully employed for a minimum of one full year and have had a positive impact in their employment experience and/or on that of their co-workers
  • Have participated in their community in a unique way

Up to three awards will be presented to Northwest employers who have employed at least one person with a developmental disability for at least one year and have demonstrated the following qualities as an employer:

  • Proven to be an equal opportunity employer
  • Been a leader and a partner in the community
  • Been a mentor and a positive role model
  • Encouraged inclusion of all employees Instilled a strong work ethic and positive attitude in the employee with a developmental disability

Up to three awards will be presented to community groups or businesses from the Northwest that:

  • Have made efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities
    and/or
  • have gone above and beyond in providing accessible service and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

This award is available to community groups or businesses that have no direct involvement with NW PDD, including involvement from paid employees or Board members of the NW PDD Board or any of its Service Provider agencies.

Nomination

To nominate a person or organization for the 10th Annual Spring Celebration and Awards night:

1) Let us know the award you are nominating a person or organization for:

Person of the Year award
Employer of the Year award
Community Inclusion award

2) Write a letter no more than one page long that tells us why the person/organization you are nominating deserves to win an award. Please give examples.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, April 18, 2008.

A selection committee will meet to choose the award winners. The selection committee will consist of a NW PDD staff member, a service provider staff member, a community member, and a self-advocate.
