PDD DISTRICT COUNCILS
Supports and services for Persons with Developmental
Disabilities in Central Alberta are based on a philosophy
that emphasizes that individuals and their families
and guardians should be able to participate as fully
as possible in any decisions that are made about things
that affect them.
To assist this participation, Eight District Councils
were established in Central Alberta in the mid 1990’s.
- The District Councils
provide individuals, parents, guardians, and the
community with an ongoing forum to raise and discuss
issues and opportunities related to persons with
developmental disabilities.
- District Councils promote the planning, development,
and delivery of a full range of community services
for persons with disabilities and their families.
- District Councils also play an educational and
advocacy role in their various communities serve
as a catalyst for action that contributes to individuals
and communities.
- District Councils have a diverse membership, is
independent and is responsive to the needs of the
local participants and community.
- District Councils also provide an opportunity for
individual consumers and their guardians/family to
their guardians/family to participate with the Board
in further developing participate with the Board
in further developing services.
- The (PDD) Central Community Board encourages people
in local communities to participate in their local
Council’s activities.
