July Web Letter
Tansi. We are well into our busy summer months and on the go. We just finished up with National Aboriginal Week and thoroughly it. In Red Deer we held 3 days of celebration that included craft selling and lessons, dancing, drumming, drum making, Metis dance and potluck supper and numerous other events. Even the weather cooperated so we were very lucky.
June also saw us finishing our loom beading project and having a fun day complete with driving the golf carts. We have some great potential drivers in our group.
July is pow-wow time. We start the July 1 st long weekend at the Alexander Pow-wow, middle of the month will find us at Calgary Stampede Native Village, then off to T'suu T'ina at the end of the month. We will be putting on some miles as we travel around Alberta.
Once a month our members have the opportunity to travel to Gull Lake and spend the day at Camp L.G. Barnes. This entire facility was built with monies raised by the Society of Parents and Friends of Michener Centre and opened in 1984. This is a great opportunity for everyone to spend a day outdoors doing activities such as drumming or playing native games and visiting the petting zoo.
If you look through the website and click on the coming events section you will notice the list for Pow-wows for the rest of the summer. We hope you able to attend at least one of them. It is definitely an experience you will never forget.
We hope you are enjoying your summer. Play safe.
