October Web Letter
Well, I just looked back at previous newsletters and realized that I am way behind.
Summer was busy and fun. We traveled to a few pow-wows and had a great time. We are always amazed by the colour and pageantry. If you have never attended one, you must try to do so.
With Fall arriving and Winter soon to follow we will start to concentrate on round dances. These are held for numerous reasons. It could be to mark the passing of a loved one, a birthday or Mother’s Day or just to get together with your friends. There is usually a potluck supper prior to the event and then a night of dancing. Should you attend a round dance, bring your own plates, utensils and cups. The dancing can carry on late into the night, although we never manage to stay that late. We would like to take in a couple of these through the winter months.
September was designated Inuit Month and we built our activities around that. One thing we decided everyone would like was a small igloo made out of Styrofoam. This has turned into a larger project than first estimated. The igloos are very time consuming and then we decided an entire Inuit village would be cute….uh-huh. We will continue this project into October and hopefully have it done then. Everyone has put in extra effort on this one and they are looking terrific.
We traveled a few miles north to Tepee Village and really enjoyed a quiet day of falling leaves, crafts, lunch and a walk to see the tepees. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun.
Well, until next month, we hope you stay safe and enjoy the colours the fall.
