October Web Letter

Fall is here and it is BEAUTIFUL! We are starting to change activities with the seasons and are looking forward to the round dances that are prevalent through the winter.

Round dances are usually held to honor someone who has passed away, or to honor a person or event such as the Mother's Day round dance. It is a time of feasting, dancing, praying and the give aways. When attending these events you always need to take bowls, plates, something to drink out of and utensils. Disposable ones are perfect. Keep in mind, if you need your foods prepared in a certain way, you must be prepared for this or bring that food.

Also, wear comfortable clothing and shoes. These are not formal events; although you want to look nice, high heels are probably not your best bet. Now, although many of you may know how to round dance, most of you won't. Everyone forms a circle, joins hands and sort of side steps in the circle clockwise. It is very easy and you do not have to feel self-conscious.

These events are normally held in the evening, starting with prayers and the meal. The dancing usually starts around nine or ten o'clock, and ends whenever it ends so be prepared for a late night.

Our office is on the move again. This will happen on or about Oct. 14th. We are therefore canceling classes on Oct 12. Our new home is a little more user friendly than our current area. We are looking forward to setting things up in a more permanent manner. The new building will be #210 and is located between the water tower and the main kitchen on the north side of Michener. Please feel free to stop by and take the tour after the 18th. We will be mostly settled by then.

Also a reminder that Monday night dancing with the Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe runs every second Monday, with the next dates being the 4 & 25th due to Thanksgiving. It begins at 6pm and is over at 8 pm at Oriole Park School. This is a free event.

So, until next month, enjoy the terrific fall weather and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
