Tansi.
Summer appears to be over and the leaves are now beginning to
turn yellow. As the seasons change so do some of the events we
attend. We are heading to Glenbow Museum this month to view its
aboriginal displays. We also found out that Shell Canada is
sponsoring all aboriginals by providing free admissions to this
area. In our case that includes their support workers as well.
So a big thank you to those at Shell.
This
summer saw us attending a few pow-wows in Central Alberta. This
is always fun, but it also gives many of our members a chance to
see family and friends. This also facilitated the setting up of
more get-togethers for the families.
Also
the fall and winter is a time to trade pow-wows for round
dances. Round dances are a gathering of family and friends to
have memorials for those who have passed away. There is a feast
that starts the event and then into the round dance and
giveaways. We try to attend 2 or 3 of these during the winter
months.
August
saw us hosting the Native Awareness Day. The entertainment was
terrific and spent many hours singing and dancing. Tanya from
Drumocracy had a crowd around her learning how to drum and
thoroughly enjoying themselves. We would like to thank all of
those who helped in making the day a huge success.
During
the Native Awareness Day we crowned our group's princess. We
made our decision based on attendance to the Tuesday class and
on outings. We were very proud to crown Norma as our Indian
Princess. Next month will see us moving once again. We are
leaving our warehouse and moving to much 'warmer'
accommodations. We will be in building 213 on the north side.
This is right across the road from the main kitchen. Once the
move is over, please feel free to stop by and visit.
We
hope you enjoy the beginning of the fall season and will talk to
you again next month.
