Aging
As people age, the supports they require, may change. Issues of mobility, health, retirement may replace concerns about getting a job, getting married, or owning a house.
While the specific circumstances for each person may vary, there is a large body of general information that may be useful for families, friends and support staff. Here is a document that was developed through the work of Dr. Doreen Sturla Scott in Red Deer and funded by the PDD Central Alberta Community Board.
As people age, it is also important, but
sometimes very difficult, to also think about a number of other topics.
A Personal Directive is a legal document which you can write in the event that something happens and you cannot make your own personal decisions in the future. Alberta Seniors, through the Office of the Public Guardian has produced a brochure titled Choosing Now for the Future: Personal Directives and a booklet titled Understanding Personal Directives. These resources provide information about Personal Directives.
Alberta Seniors and the Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services staff have produced a Guide that has a great deal of practical and useful information and forms aimed at assisting people through the death and dying process. Here is a link to the guide.
More information for Seniors is published on the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website.
