Fifteen years ago, at the age of 75, Muriel began sponsoring
a scholarship that helps people with developmental
disabilities improve their lives through education.

The staff at Camrose Burger King treat people with
developmental disabilities with the same courtesy
and respect they show all customers.
Cynthia McCracken
Cynthia is respected by individuals with developmental
disabilities, their families and their service providers
for being fair, honest and hard-working.

Jack Morgan
Jack’s skilled hands keep Youngstown Home in smooth
working order, but his greatest attributes are patience
and unfailing kindness.
Greg Andrew
Greg is a community-minded man who gives freely of
his time for the common good. He has become a special
friend to the people at Youngstown Home.

Valerie Barkley
Valerie is a natural leader and a tireless volunteer
in several organizations. Her genuine concern for people
and love of life impress everyone she meets.
Dr. Wes Jackson
Dr. Jackson is a healer in the best sense of the word
thanks to his knowledge, his boundless compassion,
his sense of humour and his holistic approach to
medicine.
Transfeeders Inc.
Transfeeders has provided meaningful and well-paid
employment for persons with developmental disabilities
for 13 years and counting.
Tina Roblee
Tina is passionate about respecting the rights and
dignity of people with disabilities and dedicated
to helping them achieve their personal goals.
RED DEER
Sandra Abma (Lacombe)
Sandra is a respected leader of Eagles Council who
has helped implement several social programs in her
community. She also won the 2004 Doreen Befus Award.
Angela Swanson (Red Deer)
Angela is mentor for people with developmental disabilities,
a leader and a role model whose courage has inspired
her peers.
Ron Briault (Red Deer)
Ron, owner of the Bowladrome in Red Deer, supports
a bowling league for people with developmental disabilities.
Michelle & Cody Colhoun (Red Deer)
The Colhouns have opened their home to people with
developmental disabilities and they treat two individuals
in their care today as valued members of their family.
Peter Thorne (Red Deer)
Peter’s dedication to an individual in his care have
helped the man

Lloyd Modin
Lloyd has persevered trhough difficult times to become
a moentor to his peers and a teacher of Person Centered
Planning
Dale and Bryan Shippelt (Rocky Mountain House A&W)
Dale and Bryan have employed people with developmental
disabiliteis for many years at their restaurant and
they’re key supporters of Clearwater District Council

Wanda Shupenio
Wanda is an invaluable employee of Westward Goals whose
dedication to an individual in her care has eleveated
his spirits and transformed his life.
WAINWRIGHT
Peggy Park
Peggy is described as a kind and thoughtful woman who
has been a vision-impaired man’s guide and supporter
for many years.
Kathy Pastuck
Kathy has helped many individuals find work. She has
a knack for finding a person’s natural abilities
and matching them with exactly the right job.
Melody Wakefield
Melody performed a small miracle in the lives of 15
people with developmental disabilities by founding
a reading theatre group called The Falcon Players.
The Falcon Players
The Falcon Players have performed in many venues, including
a recent festival of one-act plays. Next they will
do an adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
WETASKIWIN
Ed Ruff
Ed’s unwavering support of Horizons Centre for over
22 years has helped people with developmental disabilities
become more included in the community.
Jose Madriaga
Jose’s devotion to an individual with many barriers
to overcome has transformed the man’s life and allowed
him to take part in activities previously beyond
his capabilities.
